LOWNDES CO., GA (WALB) - The Animal Shelter of Valdosta and Lowndes County is now partnering with an organization called Target Zero that will work to decrease euthanization rates.

Target Zero will work with shelter staff and folks in the community to provide recommendations for animal care.

They are at meeting at the Lowndes County administration building right now, asking for public input about issues within the county.

"Here in Lowndes County we have a public shelter, and not all the counties surrounding Lowndes have public shelters so we can inadvertently end up with animals from surrounding communities as well," said Paige Dukes.

The organization will also assess the shelter and provide recommendations.

Target Zero is also partnering with other shelters near by such as the Thomasville-Thomas County Humane Society.
