ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Men in Albany spent the day learning about how to change the negative perception Albany can have.

M.O.V.E.R.S. stands for Men of Vision, Valor, Victory Exemplifying Righteousness, Spirituality, Strength, and Service.

The event, led by organizer David Miller, showed participants how to "take back the community and stop the violence."

Albany Police Chief Michael Persley said he wants to prevent gang involvement and promote higher education - all goals of Saturday's event.

"This is an opportunity to partner with the community group who's interested in future generations of this city. So any kind of support we can give to them we will do it because we want future generations to be successful to continue to make this a good life city," said Persley.

In the future, Persley said organizers want to make this event a staple and raise participation.
