ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Albany High Alumni are getting together to pay one last visit to their alma mater.
The announcement came just a few weeks ago that the school is closing.
Since then alumni decided to put together one final event.
Alumni will gather in the school lobby at 3 p.m. on Saturday afternoon for a final walk down the halls.
"We want everybody to come out and just get together and visit with each other," said one of the organizers and class of 1973 alumnus Bruce Dormity. "Reminisce the old times, what we used to do. Where the classrooms were, remember our teachers."
Former students will also get together for a group picture at 4 p.m. in the school's football stadium.
Organizers encourage participants to wear school colors and pick up a spirit ribbon from the lobby.
Thanks to Facebook posts, word about the event spread fast.
"Over 50 years of heritage from Albany High School is gonna be represented all together," said one of the organizers, Gary Sloan. "I don't think it's ever been done and we're going to do it."
Sloan graduated from Albany High School in 1985.
Former students will also be able to sign a banner to be displayed in a future Albany High School Museum.
