The Georgia State Patrol spent several hours Thursday night cleaning up after a fiery crash that killed one person and involved four tractor-trailers on I-75 South, near mile marker 3 in Lowndes County.
State Troopers say around 7:00 Thursday night a crash involving a tractor-trailer in the northbound lanes of I-75 pushed a guardrail into the southbound lanes that caused a pileup of four tractor trailers.
A semi driven by Ivan Moeriera, 43, of Saint Petersburg, Florida slammed into the back of a Freightliner.
Moeriera suffered severe burns to his body and was airlifted to Shands Hospital in Gainesville where he later died.
No other injuries were reported. Southbound lanes re-opened around 2:00 Friday morning.
The accident had all three lanes of southbound traffic closed from Exit 5 to Exit 2.
