LOWNDES CO., GA (WALB) - Now that hurricane season is underway, Lowndes county officials want to make sure people are prepared.
Each week they're focusing on a different topic and this week is on the importance of building an emergency kit.
They said your emergency kit should have items like water, non-perishable foods, a can opener, Radio, maps, prescription medications, pet food, and if you have kids, make sure to include things like diapers.
"You build a kit so you actually have those things on hand in the event that you need them because if we get to where we have bad weather hitting here those items can sell out," said Paige Dukes, Lowndes Co. PIO.
Lowndes County officials are also hosting a community wide hurricane planning meeting.
That's next Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the Rainwater Conference Center.
