TIFTON, GA (WALB) -

An international race could place Tifton on the map.

The Great Race is set to pass through Tifton for the first time in its 34-year-old tradition.

The race consists of classic, antique and vintage automobiles.

The nearly 500 participants will stay locally in the Tifton area during the first overnight stay of the race.

Revenue from businesses during the race could bring a $500 property tax saving to residents.

"It puts Tifton on the map, yes. With The Great Race this is an internationally promoted event, and so Tifton's mentioned at every turn and what a great way to promote your community," said Tifton Mayor Julie Smith.

The participants are expected to arrive in Tifton around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 24.

The race schedule says they will then be heading to Newnan, Georgia on Sunday.
