Charges against an illegal Mexican immigrant who stole the identity of another woman to join the military have been dropped.

Liliana Plata was charged with identity theft after a Texas woman discovered Plata used her name and social security number. Plata illegally entered the U.S. from Mexico and says she bought the information from a man who told her the woman was dead.

A Texas prosecutor says the charges were dropped because Plata had already been discharged from the military and did not use the woman's personal information to defraud anyone.

Plata was part of the 823rd Security Forces at Moody Air Force Base and served in the war in Iraq.
