ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A medical expert told South Georgians Thursday night they were the key to improving their own health and wellness.

Doctor Ronald McClean spoke at the Albany Civil Rights monthly community meeting talked about the misconception of dieting.

He said the main medical problems residents facing South Georgians were obesity, hypertension and heart disease.

He also mentioned that when it comes to health, a person needs to be willing to change.

"You got to take back your health. You can't allow the food industries to make your life miserable, and that's basically what they are doing. They're doing a great job helping you stay unhealthy and not a good helping you stay healthy," said Dr. McClean.

He also explained the main thing South Georgians need to do to improve your health is to want it.
