Academic Advising Center opens at ATC

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Albany Technical College unveiled it first Academic Advising Center on Thursday. 

The building was once a child development center and then the bookstore. 

Now, it has a face lift. 

Funding came from a grant from the department of education. 

The college will get almost five million dollars over five years.

The center will be staffed with academic advisers and success coaches. 

Administrators say the mission is to better guide students through their academic experiences and help them get started on their futures.

"I often say we're obligated," said Tanjula Petty, ATC VP of Academic Affairs. "If we bring them through the doors, we are obligated to help them get finished. The academic advisement center will help them do just that."

The center will also serve students who are taking online courses.

    Five new family medicine doctors will soon enter the workforce after spending three years of their residency here in Albany. Doctors Danielle Andrews, Sarah Codrea, Justin Lancaster, John Macon and Jennifer Yam graduated the Phoebe Family Medicine Residency program Saturday night at the Doublegate Country Club.
