DOUGHERTY CO., GA (WALB) -

Volunteers in the Dougherty County School system were recognized for their dedication Wednesday.

114 volunteers were applauded for volunteering for 100 hours each in the schools this year.

School System leaders provided lunch for the volunteers and certificates.

Volunteer coordinator Dorothy Sadler said in her 19 years of work, it was the most volunteers she's seen complete 100 hours or more.

She said when she first started with the school system, she would be lucky if she could get one dozen volunteers.

Sadler believes the volunteers play a big role in the success of the schools.

"Without them I don't think it would be possible. They work in areas of the school like mentoring, chaperoning field trips, reading, all different areas," said Sadler.

Sadler said she hopes the number of volunteers continues to grow each year.
