GBI arrests former Miller Co. sheriff on 17 felony charges

MILLER CO., GA (WALB) -

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has arrested the former Miller County Sheriff, Shane Rathel.

New warrants for 16 counts of felony theft by taking and one felony count of violation of office were taken as part of an ongoing investigation. 

The arrest happened Wednesday after Rathel turned himself in to the Miller County Jail, where he was booked.

Information was uncovered that led to the discovery of stolen money in various areas associated with the sheriff's office.

These new charges will be handled by the Miller County Superior Court.

This investigation remains active and ongoing. 

Rathel was arrested by the FBI in October of 2016 on stolen gun charges.

Doctors Danielle Andrews, Sarah Codrea, Justin Lancaster, John Macon and Jennifer Yam graduated the Phoebe Family Medicine Residency program Saturday night at the Doublegate Country Club.
