THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -

An eight year old Thomasville boy died early this morning, from injuries he sustained after troopers said he was run over by a golf cart.

On Thursday, the Georgia State Patrol identified the child as 8-year-old Hampton Nicholson.

It happened Sunday afternoon on Oak Trace Drive, off Old Monticello Road in Thomasville.

Troopers said an 11-year-old was driving the golf cart, with three other kids riding on it. They believe the child ran out in front of the cart, and was accidentally hit.

"We believe the children were playing some type of game that would involve the children to run around the golf cart. The golf cart was being operated in the roadway," said GSP Post Commander, Tommy Peeples.

Hampton was immediately taken to Archbold Hospital in Thomasville, and then transferred to Tallahassee Memorial, due to the severity of his injuries.
