VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Valdosta Police responded to an emergency call for help at at Bailey's Custom Meats on Clay Road, Saturday.
Police were told a man shattered the front door with a brick, and had entered the business. Police arrived to find store employees attempting to subdue a combative subject in the parking lot.
The man tried to resist arrest when the first officer responded, but they got him in custody when backup arrived.
The man was identified as Corey Porto, 44.
Witnesses said he broke his was in and tried to leave with several cartons of cigarettes. The employees tried to detain him, and called police.
Porto was transported to the Lowndes County Jail, where he now faces felony charges of: Burglary, Obstruction of an Officer, and misdemeanor Battery.
"Valdosta's local businesses provide goods and employment to our local economy. Protecting our local businesses from all types of theft will always be a top priority of the Valdosta Police Department," said Lieutenant Adam Bembry.
