ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A new survey shows that fewer drivers are talking on their phones, but more drivers are socializing with social media.

State Farm recently released its findings to its 2016 Distracted Driving Survey.

The survey found that more drivers own a smartphone and more are using their features behind the wheel.

According to the data, 23% of surveyed drivers admitted to taking pictures while they were driving a car. The survey also found that 14% of drivers said they recorded video while behind the wheel. Both numbers are up from State Farm’s 2015 survey.

Albany State Farm Agent Kent Nance told WALB News 10 that drivers should always keep their hands on the wheel and their eyes on the road.

“We need to be more focused on that and aware of things that we’re doing and that’s what this study does, it makes us aware of things that we’re doing so that we can alleviate some of that,” Nance said.

Although more drivers admitted to using social media, they also said that they were doing less of other activities behind the wheel like talking to other passengers or attending to children and pets inside the car.
