JACKSONVILLE, FL (WALB) - Some Lee County Middle School students made their mark in the Sunshine State over weekend.
Several teachers took a group of 10 students to Jacksonville, Florida, to compete in an underwater exploration and robotics competition.
The middle schoolers built their own Remotely Operated Underwater Vehicles (ROVs), funded by a grant written by teacher Brian Soash.
Saturday, the students competed in a three-part competition.
One of the teams, 6th grader Kade Mullins and 8th grader Austin Sconyers, placed 3rd overall at the regional competition.
Teachers said it is a way of getting the kids involved in underwater exploration, STEM, and simple robotics.
