ALBANY, GA (WALB) - January's severe storms couldn't stop some folks from shooting hoops and helping mentor young men in Albany.
The 2nd annual MLK hoop fest was held today at the Carter gym.
The Georgia Mentor program had mentors that played in the tournament and boys from the community joined in.
The tournament was supposed to be held on Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend but because of damage to the gym from the tornadoes, it had to be postponed.
Organizer, Elkwan Thompson says its a chance to get young men off the streets and in a safe gym.
"We want to keep things going for the city and keep everything positive. That way, the whole city will catch on and we need to all come together and have a great time," said Thompson.
All the money made from the team entry fees will go towards mentoring young men in the Albany area.
