The Fitzgerald soccer team has stormed through its schedule--pun intended, and they aren't looking to slow down any time soon.
For five straight weeks this season, the Purple Hurricane were ranked no.1 in the state.
Following their first loss last week, Fitzgerald slid one spot in the rankings.
But with a (13-1) record, they've already clinched the region 1-AA championship.
They're the first team not named Thomasville to do so in over a decade.
And with a defense that has yet to give up more than one goal in a game all season, they're eying a much larger prize.
"We have not won the region since 2004," said head coach Andy Dent. "So we broke that glass ceiling this year. But to get past that second round and maybe push into the final 4, I don't know how deep we can go, but we want to go as far as we can."
"Everybody communicates and talks," said senior captain Logan Bryant. "And when you're looking at the game you can really see how well we work together, and you can see everybody having fun."
The Purple Hurricane have been bounced from the postseason in the second round two straight seasons.
Playoffs aren't until late April.
They play at Brooks county Friday night at 7.
