SAVANNAH, GA (WALB) - A giant industrial load that is too heavy for the most direct route from its Cocoa, Florida origin will travel through South Georgia, again, enroute back to North Carolina. This convoy will go in a reverse trek from than the one that took a giant rotor to Florida on March 28.
The convoy hauling the cargo comes to over half a million pounds, and is over 18 feet wide, and 250 feet long.
The DOT says the night travel schedule should reduce the impact on traffic, but motorists are encouraged to avoid the route if possible. Do not try to pass the convoy.
The Georgia Department of Transportation announced Monday that a huge machine rotor will enter Georgia from Florida Thursday night.
It will snake its way back to Savannah, the same way it came. It will go through Lowndes, Cook, Tift, Dooly, Houston, Twiggs, Treutlen, Bleckley, Candler, Bulloch, and Chatham Counties.
