DOUGLAS, GA (WALB) - Parole officers went to Rashaan Sims' house to arrest him for parole violation, and ended up arresting him on new drug charges. All because he asked them to get his cell phone.
When they cuffed the 26-year-old Sims near U.S. Hwy 441 South, he asked officers to retrieve his cell phone from inside the home.
That's when they saw a clear plastic bag containing suspected marijuana on top of a dresser.
The Coffee County Sheriff's Office brought out a drug dog, who uncovered numerous bags of suspected marijuana Sims had hidden.
A set of scales, commonly used in the distribution of narcotics, was also discovered.
Sims was transported to the Coffee County Jail, and faces one charge of violating his parole and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.
He has previous convictions in Georgia for marijuana possession and sale/distribution of cocaine.
