ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Albany Police Department is investigating after a longtime Albany business was burglarized early Thursday morning.

Police say the incident took place around 2:50 a.m. at D&D Tree Service on North Slappey Blvd.

The business owner and several officers arrived at the business shortly after the security alarm went off.

According to investigators, a person made it inside the office after smashing a window. Once inside, the suspect took a safe that contained both cash and checks and left the scene.

There is no information regarding a suspect or suspects at this time.

Area tree service businesses have been busy dealing with fallen trees from the recent storms and it looks like the suspect may have known that too.

The incident has been turned over to the APD burglary unit.
