ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Emergency officials are urging you to take steps and prepare to keep you and your family safe if there is severe weather.
EMA officials want you to make an emergency plan now, before the storm.

Think about your home and find the safest place to shelter during a weather event. And put together an emergency kit of the supplies you might need if your home is damaged or lose power.

Dougherty County EMA Specialist Jenna Wirtz said "Do you have enough water for 3 days.  Do you have enough for 3 days.  Do you have flashlights with batteries that work.  Do you have extra batteries.  Have you charged your cellphones so you can make sure you can communicate with loved ones."

EMA officials say having a plan that you and your entire family understands before severe weather is the most important preparation.
