There was just one item on the agenda at Worth county's school board meeting tonight, and that was the approval of the new head football coach.
A unanimous vote awarded Ben Simmons the head coaching gig.
The former Turner County football coach was one of 41 applicants for the vacancy.
Simmons has 23 years of experience as a football coach in Florida and Georgia.
Over the past two seasons he led the Rebels to a 16-7 record out in Ashburn.
And just like the Worth County Rams, his Rebels made two straight postseason appearances.
The Florida State grad plans to bring more than just wins to Sylvester.
"It's not just about football," said Simmons. "It's about life lessons for kids once they leave those high school doors to be able to go out into the community. It's not just about wins and losses. I want to be able to build young student athletes men or women for those positive opportunities that they can be able to take advantage of."
Simmons is replacing Jason Tone who resigned abruptly in late February.
Tone was 24-20 in 4 seasons.
