DOUGHERTY CO., GA (WALB) -

Dougherty County Police say crooks are continuing to steal from homes and businesses damaged or destroyed by January's storms.

And with more severe weather expected for Wednesday, officers have advice for home owners.

Lieutenant Steve Mitchum reminds homeowner and business owners to secure their damaged property as best as possible.

If you see anything or anyone suspicious in a storm affected area, call police.

Lieutenant Mitchum said there are steps you can take before the storm hits to ensure your property could be tracked down if stolen.

"Try to get a listing of what those valuable items are, serial numbers, so we can add that into our reports, so we can know what we're looking for," he said.

DCP officers continue to patrol storm damaged areas, but encourage residents to keep their eyes out for thieves.
