CAMILLA, GA (WALB) -

Businesses in Camilla opened their doors for the 'Spring Fling' on Thursday evening.

From 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. businesses kept their doors open for customers.

Business owner had special promotions and even some door prizes that they gave out.

Seventeen local businesses took part in the event.

The event is something local businesses have tried in the past, but on a much smaller scale.

"People drive through Camilla everyday not realizing what we have. If we can get them to stop and look, they may be surprised at what all our little three blocks has, said Main Street Director Eric Brooks.

The 'Spring Fling' is one of the four events that happen each year in Camilla to promote the downtown area.

"Events like this draw so many people into town," said owner of the Imagination Emporium Anna Lee.

"Especially a lot of people that might not come to town very often. It brings new customers into the stores for us," said Lee.

The Main Street Program hopes to make the event an annual one.
