SUMTER CO., GA (WALB) -

Sumter County Fire & Rescue battled a house fire off Highway 280 East Thursday morning.

Multiple units responded to the scene along with one Goldstar Ambulance.

A Sumter County Sheriff's Deputy on scene said there was one woman in the home, but she was able to escape.

EMS treated her for difficulty breathing.

Firefighters don't know the cause yet, but Battalion Chief Alfred Lewis said almost the whole home has some type of damage because of the fire.

"It was a quick response by all our personnel," he said. "Once we got on the scene, we found there was nobody in the house. So, we immediately went inside the structure and started attacking the fire from the inside of the structure."
