Former Meigs mayor arrested for 'false statements'

MEIGS, GA - The former mayor Meigs, Linda Harris, was arrested Tuesday afternoon around 3:30.

The Thomas County Sheriff's office reported she was arrested for "false statements and writings."

She also filed a false document to the courts claiming she was indigent.

In February, Harris was convicted on charges of theft by taking and violating her oath of office. 

Harris is not allowed to be on Meigs City property such as City Hall and the Meigs Community Center.

She also is not allowed to run for office while she is on probation.
