Albany State kicked off spring football Monday afternoon.
With plenty of uncertainty surrounding the program, getting back on the field was the perfect remedy.
Interim Coach Anthony Kelly led the Golden Rams on the opening day of spring practices.
The team is still searching for a head coach following Dan Land's resignation earlier this month.
Until the replacement is hired, Kelly---who has served decades on the staff, is the familiar face in charge.
Head coach isn't the only position of turnover.
Last year's starting quarterback Caleb Edmonds graduated.
Also ASU will be without two-time conference offensive player of the year, running back Jarvis small.
"We had lost some great leaders, but those leaders that we lost prepared other leaders," said Kelly. "So I expect Nick Scott to step up and Charles Stafford to step up. Those are just two names that I expect to be leaders on offense and defense."
Stafford is entering his junior year with ASU. He feels a bond growing out of necessity in the absence of Land.
"I feel like this brought us closer, like when coach resigned," said Stafford. "It brought us closer as a team. It's more like a family."
The family will continue with spring practices through late April.
