WALB reporter heads off to Marine bootcamp on Parris Island

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

WALB News 10's Re-Essa Buckels is on her way to bootcamp-- to learn how Marines are made. 

Buckels shipped off at zero six hundred hours heading to Parris Island, SC. 

Buckels stocked up on the necessary equipment like walking shoes and bug spray to fend off the sand fleas-- an insect native to the area. 

She also how been putting in some serious work at the gym to get fit for bootcamp.

Recent marine graduate, Anthony McRoy shared these encouraging words with Buckels.  

"Be you and don't take anything to the heart because you're going to get picked on, you're going to get challenged. If anything it's suppose to make you better than yourself," said Private First Class McRoy. 

Buckels arrives on Parris Island around 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

    Here in Southwest Georgia the American Red Cross has been working the last couple of days to prepare for the storm.  The American Red Cross has been getting their relief supplies ready across the 19 county region.
