TALLAHASSEE, FL (WALB) - Last Thursday, in the pre-dawn hours, a man led police on a high-speed chase that resulted in a wreck that left him with critical injuries.
GSP Sergeant Pete Lukas from Post 13 in Tifton tells WALB that Ronnie Bruce Jones, 46, of Jacksonville, Florida was driving a 1999 Toyota 4-Runner in Tift near mile marker 59 on I-75 southbound.
Tift County deputies tried to stop him, and requested GSP assistance, and ended their chase at mile marker 55.
Cook County deputies found the car at mile marker 49, and tried to initiate a stop, but Jones got up to 100 miles per hour.
At mile marker 32, he almost rear-ended a semi, and passed it on the shoulder of the road. GSP performed a PIT maneuver, and Jones spun out, and flipped over.
Jones was not wearing seatbelt, and was ejected from the car. He was flown to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, and at last report was stable.
He is facing charges of felony fleeing/eluding, DUI, reckless driving, speeding, no insurance, and a seatbelt violation.
