CORDELE, GA (WALB) - A South Georgia community will welcome its first China-based industry.
Governor Nathan Deal announced Farmax Merchandise, a China-based peanut production and exporting company, will open a facility in Cordele.
The facility will bring 20 to 30 jobs.
It will be a peanut oil processing facility located in the Cordele-Crisp County Industrial Park East on Highway 280.
Cordele-Crisp County Industrial Development Council Executive Director Grant Buckley said this is proof of the county's booming economy.
"Them coming here is really a testament to our business friendly environment in this community," said Buckley. "We've got quite a few diversified manufacturers here. All of them appear to be doing very well...good, strong, steady growth in our community."
Buckley said it's hard to pinpoint when the facility will open, but he thinks it could be some time in 2018.
The facility will be open 24 hours, so some of the jobs created will be night shifts.
