LEESBURG, GA (WALB) -

Publix employees are giving back to the South Georgia community.

Employees from the Albany and Lee County Publix Super Markets pledged to give 50 thousand dollars to United Way in 2017.

That money is given throughout the year.

On Tuesday the Publix's corporate offices presented their own contribution to United Way, with a check for $38,500.

President and CEO of United Way in Southwest Georgia LaKisha Bryant Bruce said it's an increase from last year.

"We are so grateful for their continued support and continued contributions to the United Way campaign because we believe in what they do and they believe in their dollars going to work in their community," said President and CEO of United Way of Southwest Georgia, LaKisha Bryant Bruce.

The money will support education, health, basic needs and financial stability in the South Georgia community.
