Meigs mayor steps down, to grieve

MEIGS, GA (WALB) - The Meigs City Attorney, Tom Lehman, confirms that Meigs Mayor Cheryl Walters resigned during last night's city council meeting.

Lehman said Walters started the meeting with the usual minutes, then announced she was resigning because of the death of her husband last month.  She said she was going home to grieve.

Walters took office in November, and served from November to last night.

Lehman said Meigs Mayor Pro Tem, Dorothy Wims, will take over and serve in her stead until the next Thomas County election, which he presumed would be November.
