VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

A terrifying ordeal ended peacefully before dawn Sunday morning, when police subdued a man who attacked residents of a Valdosta home, trying to rob them.

Just after 3:00 Sunday morning, Lowndes County E-911 received an emergency call from a woman needing police, after someone broke into her home, and  attacked her family.

VPD arrived quickly, and found the door of the house barricaded, so that the people could not get out.

Officers got in through another door, and found Willie Grant, who they say was holding the family, and immediately arrested  him.

The victims said that Grant began knocking on the door, and then forced his way into the house, demanding money.   Once inside, they said he assaulted the residents, who were later treated by Emergency Medical Services for superficial injuries.

Willie Grant was transported to the Lowndes County Jail where he faces five felony charges-

Burglary 1st Degree
Aggravated Assault w/the intent to Commit Rape, two counts
Cruelty to a Person Age 65 or Older
1st Degree Cruelty Towards Children
?False Imprisonment, three counts, and one Misdemeanor charge of Hindering Persons Making an Emergency Call

"We are proud of the courage exhibited by the residents in this case. Their actions helped officers take the offender into custody before someone was seriously hurt," said Lieutenant Adam Bembry.
