LAKELAND, GA (WALB) - For the Lakeland community, Sunday was a day to celebrate.
"This facility has taken 16 months to build with hundreds of workers, who have come out and put their time, efforts and talents to providing a great facility such as this one," said Heath Evans, Interim C.E.O.
The new South Georgia Medical Center Lakeland Villa senior citizen center opened its doors to crowds of people.
The eleven million dollar, state of the art facility will now be one of the largest employers and economic generators in Lanier County.
"It's an investment in our economy, jobs, it will be over 19 million dollars annually," said Evans.
The new facility features 62 private rooms as well as a rehabilitation center and two outdoor courtyards.
"In a time that you see so many hospitals struggling in rural Georgia, this is a testament to our dedication to the small communities around us," said Evans.
Lakeland Villa will be home to residents, as well as more than 100 employees who will spend hours working there.
