ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Albany Exchange Club tonight named their Golden Deeds award recipient of the year, one of their highest awards given by the organization.
Back the Blue organizer, Tom Gieryic, was this year's Golden Deeds recipient.
Every year, the organization recognizes someone who's involved in good works in the community.
Gieryic raised about $40,000 for chainsaw crews helping with storm relief efforts.
Gieryic said he was surprised he was even considered for the award.
"I mean it's mind blowing you know. It makes me feel good inside to know that my community stands behind the things that I do do. Because I do it for the community not for myself," said Gieryic.
Exchange Club members said 2017 Golden Deeds banquet was their best year yet.
They received many nominations for people who sacrificed their time to help with storm relief.
But Members say Gieryic had the largest file of activity contributions of any nominee ever submitted for the award.
