AMERICUS, GA (WALB) -

Once again, traffic violations have led to the felony arrest of a man, one who was wanted in Dougherty County.

On Tuesday afternoon, a Sumter County deputy and a State Trooper from Post 10 stopped a woman driving on US 19 South, near Old Dawson Road. Autumn Manriquez was charged with Suspended Registration, Suspended License, and other traffic violations.

While this was happening, the passenger in the car, Robert Lee Edwards, jumped into the driver’s seat, and zoomed away, leading authorities on a chase.

Edwards crashed the car in some woods, and then took off on foot, but was apprehended by Sumter County deputies.

When they caught him, he had three controlled substances on his person; Hydrocodone, Dilaudid, and Marijuana, with a street value of $2,000. Additional drug charges are pending further investigation.

Edwards has charges pending in Dougherty County.

The traffic charges are being investigated by the Georgia State Patrol, and the drug offenses are being investigated by the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Investigative Division.
