CAMILLA, GA (WALB) -

The city of Camilla has welcomed a new police chief, but he's a familiar face.

Chief John Mark Hendricks is taking on a new role.

He's been on the police force in Camilla for the past 25 years.

He was the assistant chief to former police chief Ray Folsom.

Folsom retired Friday after working 47 years in law enforcement, and 25 years in Camilla.

"I was with him shortly as he came. I learned from the best so I'm just going to try and keep things going as smoothly as we have been," said Hendricks.

Hendricks officially started Monday.

Retired Chief Folsom recommended Hendricks to take his position.

He said he'll do a great job.
