ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Students at Sherwood Acres got a special treat Tuesday morning.
Georgia First lady Sandra Deal stopped by to read to students.
After letting them choose the book, she talked to them about the importance of learning to read.
She also presented school leaders with a book she co-authored, about the governor's mansion.
She shared stories about the mansion with students.
She even told them about when the mansion was hit by a tornado.
Deal said she wanted to get them excited about learning.
"They're the only ones who can learn for themselves. We can encourage, and teach the basic skills, but they have to practice to make that a part of them. So that's what I want to encourage, to get them to dream, and have a plan for their future," said Deal.
After leaving Sherwood Acres, Mrs. Deal made stops at West town Elementary, and schools in Americus.
