VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - The man police charged with robbing a Valdosta bank Friday afternoon was captured just minutes after the stick up, thanks to a good citizen's help.
Valdosta police chief Brian Childress says a white male was arrested just minutes after robbing the Southwest Georgia Bank on North Valdosta Road about 4 p.m. on Friday.
Chief Childress said the bank robber is charged with armed robbery, but said he will wait until Saturday morning to release his name and more information.
The Chief said after robbing the bank, the man drove away at a high rate of speed, attracting the attention of a good citizen who called 9-1-1 with the tag number and description of the car.
A Valdosta police officer and Lowndes County sheriff's deputy stopped the car a few blocks away, and took the driver into custody.
Chief Childress said bank surveillance video confirmed him as the armed robber, and he was arrested.
Police say six people were in the bank during the robbery, and no one was hurt.
Chief Childress said the arrested man is a local man, who had left the area for a while, and recently returned to Valdosta.
