DOUGHERTY CO., GA (WALB) - A group of volunteers are leading long-term recovery efforts in Dougherty County.
The group is working side by side with FEMA, the Salvation Army and other non profit organizations.
They know many who were hit by the storms in January are trying to make ends meet.
They want to make sure every storm victim gets the help they need.
This week they've helped one family who lost everything furnish their rental homes.
The lead pastor at Sherwood Baptist Church is organizing the efforts.
"We saw the need," said pastor Ken Bevel. "There are a lot of people within our community that still require help and support physically, financially and spiritually. We're trying to reach out to our community, identify where those needs are and bring in local and national resources to bear on those needs still in Dougherty County."
The volunteers are planning several different events to raise funds for storm victims in the coming weeks.
We will share the details with you as they come.
