COOK CO., GA (WALB) - Many people in Cook County are relieved to hear a hospital will remain open in their community.
The Cook County Commissioners voted unanimously Monday to enter into a memorandum of understanding to fund a new replacement facility, for the Cook Medical Center.
Early last month, hospital authorities announced the Cook County emergency room would be closing.
The biggest concern for Cook County residents is time. If the hospital closes all together, the nearest hospital would be roughly 20 miles away.
Tift Regional health Systems officials, who own the Cook County Hospital, said it would remain open while the new facility is built.
