MOULTRIE, GA (WALB) -

An organization in Moultrie is hoping to help those affected by mental illness.

According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), nearly 10 million adults in America live with a serious mental illness.

NAMI Moultrie wants to help families who have loved ones fighting a disorder.

The group will offer a free Family to Family Education Program beginning on Monday, March 13, 2017, at 5:30 p.m.

The program, consisting of 12 free sessions, is designed to teach family members about how to support loved ones dealing with a disorder like schizophrenia, major depression, bipolar disorder, etc.

The class is taught by leaders who have loved ones dealing with a mental illness.

One of the teachers, Shannon Bell, has a brother who was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, so Bell understands how families can be affected by mental illness.

For more information on the classes, call 229-454-1668.
