ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The countdown for the Snickers marathon has transitioned from days to hours.
Friday afternoon runners checked in at the Hilton Garden Inn downtown.
42 states and four different countries will be represented Saturday morning.
The athletes picked up their numbers, shirts and memorabilia at the hotel.
Tomorrow some will race just to finish, and others will be trying to qualify for the Boston Marathon.
But no matter the goal, they all will enjoy a weekend in the good life city--some for the very first time.
"Being from the East side of the state we don't make it over here very much," said Statesboro native Lance McBrayer who is running the Snickers marathon for the first time. "So it's my first trip over here. We're going to check out downtown tonight and tomorrow and we're looking forward to having a really good weekend."
Following the marathon tomorrow will be the Mardi Gras celebration downtown.
City leaders believe the community will see a $1 million economic impact this weekend.
