TIFTON, GA (WALB) - More tourists are flocking to Tifton. City leaders say tourist spending was up more than $2,000,000 from 2014, generating nearly $98,000,000 in 2016.
Tourist spending also generated more than $2.8 million in local tax revenue, adding up to $100,000 from 2014.
City leaders says special events like Friday night's Rhythm and Ribs Festival motivates people to visit.
"Being able to offer special events like this and attract people to be able to enjoy the day in Tifton that's what makes those tourism dollars click and turnover into the community and I think that's a big part of it," said Mayor Julie Smith.
Tifton tourism numbers also supported 889 jobs, going up 19 jobs from 2014.
