ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital has seen a steep rise in flu cases in recent weeks, and officials are very concerned.
The hospital has been admitting more than 70 flu patients on a weekly basis.
That's up from around 10-15 per week.
The CDC is reporting widespread flu activity in most of the country, including here in Georgia.
Phoebe's chief medical officer doesn't expect the spike to last long.
"You can continue to see cases of flu can extend throughout the year, but we know the peak season usually goes from early to mid-fall, to early spring," said Dr. Steve Kitchen.
Phoebe has heightened it's sense of awareness with incoming patients to prevent the spread of the virus.
