ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Thursday was National Read Across America day, and kids across South Georgia were motivated to pick up books.

Northwest Library in Dougherty county hosted "Grab your hat, and read with the cat."

Library workers dressed up in Dr. Suess themed costumes, and kids were invited for two hours of fun and learning in the library.

Kids got their brains active in more ways than just reading.

"The kids have some passive literacy programming over here where they can color, do door hangers and mazes, things like that, which all promotes literacy even though they're not technically reading," said branch manager Patricia Perles.

March 2nd is Dr. Suess' birthday.

This is the 20th annual National Read Across America day.
