If you are driving north for the holidays, now's the time to get your car checked.  If you see warnings on the dash of your car, that's all the more reason.

Mechanics say checking your car's fluids and tire pressure should be a top priority.

As with any long drive you should check your oil, but if you are traveling to colder temperatures, having the right mix of antifreeze in your engine is a must.

Folks at Gieryic's Automotive say the last thing you want is to have to be dealing with car trouble during your visit with family around the holidays.

"I mean you can't prevent everything from happening, but there is so much that you can prevent. What I always tell people is-- don't wait until the day before, because the shops are going to be busy," said Tom Gieryic.

He says they are always slammed the day before Christmas Eve, with people wanting to get their cars fixed and checked.
