ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Albany Police Department is now working an active homicide investigation after an early morning shooting.

Officials say Curtis Davis, 36, was shot Saturday morning in a central Albany neighborhood.

Police say neighbors called 911 about 5:45 a.m. with reports of several shots being fired in the 600 block of West Tift Avenue and West Society Avenue.

Davis was found with a bullet wound to the back when officials arrived. He was then taken to the hospital by ambulance for treatment, where he later died of his injuries.

Officers continued searching the neighborhood, looking for two suspects.

No suspects were found, but the Crime Scene Unit recovered bullet shell casings from the scene of the shooting.

The case has been turned over to the Albany Police Department’s Robbery Homicide Unit.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call the Albany Police Department at 229-431-2100 or CrimeSTOPPERS at 229-436-TIPS.
