AMERICUS, GA (WALB) -

One Americus restaurant received a special gift after hosting the caisson unit for the fallen officers last week

Bird Dog Barbecue got a call from the city asking if they would be interested in hosting the unit from North Carolina.

Owner Kerry Willis said it was the least she could do for a unit that does so much.

She said once the community found out they were hosting, everyone asked to pitch in.

When the caisson unit left, they left the owner with a special gift, a 10 year anniversary Challenger Coin.

It's one of very few the unit gives to those deserving.

"The said it's up to them as a unit as to who they present them to and they said that they just felt like after everything we did for them they just wanted to give back to us as well," said Willis.

Willis said it was a great experience to talk to the men.

She said they told her the same horses that pulled Officer Smarr and Smith's bodies pulled Ronald Reagan's as well.
