Six suspects in custody after Americus robbery, shooting

AMERICUS, GA (WALB) -

Six suspects with connections to an aggravated assault and attempted robbery in Americus are now in custody.

The incident was reported Thursday at a home on the 1000 block of Simmons Drive.

Americus police officials determine that the attempted robbery targeted a suspected drug house.

Esco Mel Hurt, 25, remains in the Phoebe Sumter Medical Center and is charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Jalee Torres Brooks, 17, remains in the Phoebe Sumter Medical Center and charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, aggravated assault, and criminal attempt.

Derrick Torres Brooks, 20, is in the Sumter County Jail and charged with criminal attempt, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Trenedrick Carlos Bishop, 23, is in the Sumter Co. Jail and charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

Corey Anderson Simmons, Jr. currently remains at large and has warrants issued for his arrest. Simmons is charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

Two juveniles of the ages 14 and 15 are also in custody at the Crisp Regional Youth Detention Center as a result of the investigation.
